Embracing the Long Run: Lessons from My Recent Marathon

April 16, 2024

In 2018, I was the last finisher at the REVEL Mt Charleston Marathon — 45 minutes past the course cutoff, and after multiple attempts to pick me up in the “sag wagon”. Rather than viewing this as a defeat, I embraced it as a pivotal motivational moment. This year, I returned with an ambitious goal: not just to avoid last place, but to finish in under 6 hours!

Crossing the finish line this time at 5 hours and 37 minutes was a testament to the power of setting and achieving ambitious goals. The marathon tested me with its freezing temperatures, fierce winds, and unexpected setbacks — like forgetting my hydration pack at home! Each mile taught me more about my own resilience. This journey reinforced a vital lesson: the importance of preparation, the strength found in resilience, and the triumph that comes from embracing the long run, both literally and metaphorically.

This experience underscores the fundamental principles upon which I’ve built our agency. Like a marathon, life brings its own hurdles and challenges; and like a marathoner, we must be prepared to face them head-on. Insurance isn’t just a business to me — it’s about providing a safety net, so when life does throw a curveball, you’re ready not just to catch it but to throw it back.

The connection between a marathon and our work at Schaub Insurance Agency is clear. The unpredictability a runner faces on the race course parallels the uncertainties we encounter in life.Insurance, much like strategic race preparation, is about planning for the unexpected.

Just as I crossed the marathon's finish line stronger and more determined, we aim to help you cross whatever finish lines you face with confidence and peace of mind. Together, we embrace the long run with resilience and certainty that no matter the conditions, we can make it through stronger on the other side.

Thank you for being part of our community at Schaub Insurance Agency. Let’s continue to run this race together, supporting each other every step of the way.
